Most Singles Expect Midnight Kisses From Just One Person This New Year's Eve According To Match.com Survey of Singles
Men are still expected to pay for New Year's Eve dates

DALLAS, TX- In a recent survey of 575 singles by online dating service Match.com, 46% indicated they expect kisses from just one person on New Year's Eve. Another 14% plan on grabbing kisses from numerous people. Men were more likely than women to indicate they expected to kiss more than one person this New Year's Eve, and singles living on the West Coast were the most likely to indicate they expect at least one kiss at the strike of midnight. Twenty-eight percent of singles in the survey acknowledge that being dateless on New Year's Eve is worse than being single and without a date on any other holiday. While 51% of singles in that same survey stated they didn't make New Year's resolutions last year, 69% have indicated they plan to make resolutions for 2003. Of those singles who did make New Year's resolutions last year, 87% followed through on their 2002 resolutions to some extent, but 13% admitted that they did not. Singles living in the South were the least likely to have followed through on last year's resolutions. The most popular resolutions singles in that survey indicated they'll make for next year are to lose weight and fall in love, each getting 18% of the responses. While 14% of singles said they will resolve to be better with their money next year, 13% have resolved to go on more dates, not always a thrifty activity. As we begin a new year and continue to benefit from new romantic technologies, like those available on online dating services, dating still falls back on somewhat traditional gender-based protocols. The same survey indicated that only 3% of women expect to pick up the full tab for their New Year's Eve date, while 82% of the men expect to do so. Forty-seven percent of women and 16% of men expect to split the tab, which may make for some awkward moments when the check arrives. "Either hope springs eternal, or 2003 may be the year of the single woman since 82% of single women surveyed, compared to 74% of single men, believe that 2003 will be a better year for romance than 2002,"said Trish McDermott, vice president of romance for Match.com. "When Match.com singles were asked to name the most remarkable observation about dating in 2002, the two top picks were the number of people dating online and the influence technology has had on dating. Those observations, coupled with the fact that singles appear to be feeling generally optimistic about their romantic futures, lead us to expect online dating at Match.com to continue to be immensely popular in 2003."
