6/2/2004 Send cheaters to jail, say over 40% of Online Singles NEW YORK, NY- Cheating is the main reason that couples break up. Now, Susan Kasprzak a Republican Congresswoman from Maine wants to imprison and punish married adulterers for a year. She says the punishment is needed as infidelity causes divorce and chronic social problems. Based on this scenario Date.com, a leading online dating site, asked its members: Should people go to prison for committing adultery? Members were given the choice of No, adultery shouldn't be compared to serious crimes and Yes, adultery hurts everyone involved and we need more incentive to prevent it. A sizable minority, 45 percent of women and 41 percent of men, agreed that the slammer was the place for those who cheat on their mates. The remaining 55 percent and 59 percent of women and men respectively, said adultery should not be punished with time in jail. “The Date.com results are a good example of how strongly some people feel about adultery”, said Brenda Ross, relationship advisor for Date.com. “Although in the minority, it's interesting to note that almost half of the women and more than 40 percent of men polled think that incarceration is suitable punishment for cheaters. It points to a hardening of attitudes on the issue of infidelity and although a law like this would likely never pass, it's something that should be on the minds of those who would cheat,” she added. |
